Clayton is located in Rabun County, it was founded Dec.13 1823. Clayton was named after Judge Augustins Clayton, and it was originally named Claytonsville. It has been a town for a long time. Today Clayton brings many attractions to its recreational activities. It is a home to many regional authors. There are several places to visit and events that are held in this city.

One of the most famous attractions, in a nearby mountain city, is the Foxfire Museum. Recreational activities range from camping, horse back-riding, the Bartram Trail, and much more. The Bartram Trail is over 40 miles long, with beautiful land marks such as waterfalls, rivers, and moutaintop views. Clayton provides campgrounds, local RV resorts, and nearby access to Lake Burton Beach. You can also enjoy the Highlands Motorcycle ride, a bike ride that lets you see unforgettable scenery.

Clayton is the host of the Mountain Lake Classic Antique Show, Bluegrass & BBQ festivals, and Firefox festivals. You can celebrate Clayton with the Music and Art Festival. This festival has music, arts, crafts, and gardening for all ages to enjoy. Festivals are an important part to Rabun County's herritage, and are here for the whole family to enjoy. There are lots of outdoor activities and major attraction sites, Tallulah Falls, Sky Valley and the Rabun Gap.
